BEST OF THE BEST TRAINEE PAPER

It has been decided that at next years BOA meeting in Manchester a competition will be run for the "Best of the Best Trainee Paper".  Each training programme has been asked to put forward what they consider to be their best paper for this competition (by a trainee who is not doing a higher degree).  The best paper therefore from the presentations on the 9th December will be selected and put forward.  I understand that there is a worthwhile prize for the winning paper and this is also an excellent move for the training programmes.  Steve Eastaugh-Waring.

TPD / POSTGRAD TUTOR ROLES

After five years as Programme Director, and since taking over recently as Clinical Director at NBT, I feel it's time to step down from the TPD role.  The post was advertised recently and after interview with the Deanery, Mark Crowther was appointed as my successor.  As he steps down as Postgrad Tutor, Jason Webb will take over that role.  Both have extensive education experience and a real enthusiasm for teaching, so the rotation is in the best possible hands for the future.  They will both take over at the end of the year.  You're stuck with me until then!!   S Eastaugh-Waring

FRIDAY AFTERNOON TEACHING

Out of term time and on Fridays when there is no teaching, trainees should attend hospital functions. Anyone who feels they have a legitimtate case for having the time off, should put their argument to their local STC member.

FELLOWSHIP NOTICE

We have had some organisational difficulties this time with the rotation due to short notice being given of fellowships. In future therefore, please formally give Carole at least 3 months notice of any planned time Out of Programme. If notice is given within 3 months of leaving, you will not be guaranteed the time off.

NOTTINGHAM FRACTURE FORUM

The Nottingham Fracture Forum's 30th Anniversary Meeting will take place between 7th-11th November 2011. This is a very prestigious course and we have been invited to nominate a Senior Registrar wtih a major interest in trauma to attend. Visiitng facult this year will include Pierre Guy from Vancouver and Jan Erik Madsen from Oslo. The fee of £800 will be covered but you will be responsbile for your hotel accommodation which is £75 per night. If you would like to be considered, please email Carole Wood as soon as.

RITA / ARCP SUMMER DATES

RITAs and ARCPs will be held on the afternoons of Friday, 15th July, Friday, 26th August and Friday, 16th September at the Deanery. Chad Elliott at the Deanery will be contacting you with your allocated date/time.

TRAUMA ATTACHMENT

Dear All There is an opportunity, courtesy of Mr Rocos, to spend a two week attachment in Aachen in Germany in a Level 1 Trauma Centre with one of the European gurus of trauma surgery. The costs will be met with the AO Foundation and I think it would certainly look good on a CV for anybody contemplating an element of trauma in their long term consultant post. We are looking to start this around the summer time of this year and we envisage a European trainee swapping over to this side of the English Channel in exchange. Anybody interested, please let me know and I will work out how freuqently we can run this and the fine details therein. Kind regards. S J Eastaugh-Waring Training Programme Director
